Teaching Painting in Singapore, 26 Sept

The student in my painting class are doing their 3rd portrait. These are all beginning painting students. They have taken a year of drawing, except for one engineering student who has never had a mark on paper. She has spent her live using the mouse and touch pad only!

I think they are doing great. The Singaporean students generally make a lot of progress. They listen and try what the teacher is telling them.

This is a difficult challenge to have a pink light on one side of the models face and a yellow on the other.

Here is how she started. I consider it an excellent start. It’s loose and open. Open meaning she doesn’t lock anything down.

Here’s another start I like. I don’t teach the students a step by step method. I only teach them how to see the color they are looking at, identify what it is and we talk a lot about how to mix color.

Here is what the room looks like. They get 3 hours or one sitting to do these portraits.
